Well I am kind of surprised to be writing this but we have some big news! Our family may be growing, and no I am not pregnant. My 15 year old nephew Andrew who has been living with my parents had a bumpy week, and was caught smoking marijuana at school. So he was suspended, and may be expelled. I have been praying about how best to help Andrew get on a better road in his life journey, and I have really felt led to open our home to him. Doug and I discussed it and with some very firm house rules we are offering Andrew a new life with us. We will be going out to Cathedral City this afternoon to meet with Andrew, my parents, and my sister Jill who is Andrew's mother. We will discuss the alternatives that are open to Andrew and I am praying that if it is God's will that Andrew should live with us, that Andrew's heart will be open to the idea and choose to come home with us. My parents are very frustrated with Andrew and are supportive of him coming to live with us. My sister really doesn't have a stable home environment and can't offer him a home. If he does come with us he will be subject to the following house rules:
- You will be home schooled and will make a solid effort in your schoolwork.
- No alcohol, drugs, or smoking of any kind. *if you are found with drugs the police will be called
- Must go to church, and youth group
- Must keep your belongings and space child proof and picked up.
- Must behave as an older brother, think about what the younger kids will learn from your actions.
- You will not be left home alone.
- You will not be able to go outside our yard alone.
- You will participate in a sport or extra curricular activity of your choice such as karate, drama, art, or music.
- No cell phone.
- No looking like, or acting like a stoner. Clothing, hair style, music listening, and conversation should match your choice to leave that life behind.
- No use of guns or weapons of any kind.
- You will be subject to random drug testing.
So pray for us and for Andrew. I will post a blog later when I know what will be happening.
