So the meeting yesterday went pretty good all the adults were on the same page which was awesome. I was kind of afraid my sister would sabotage our efforts but she was very supportive of the plan. We went in with all the rules in writing. Andrew was pretty upset about having to move out of the area and leave his friends but in the end he seemed to accept that this change is going to happen. He didn't like the rules much, but took them better than I expected. In the beginning he won't be able to leave our yard alone even for a walk. I told him that's a privilege that he can earn. He seemed to get excited about the various things he can do to help out around the house. He is actually very eager to please. I think a lot of his troubles stem from trying to please the wrong people, and trying to get attention. We started talking about decorating his room and some of the more fun things we can do. Then he asked very respectfully if he can wait until Sunday evening to come to my house so he can say goodbye to his friend Kayla. Kayla is actually his one friend that is a positive influence so I agreed. So he should be here by dinner time today. I called a little while ago and my mom said he is packing.
He is depressed about this big change in his life and I know it will be a huge adjustment. Change is hard for anyone. I'm not sure when we will be officially enrolled in his charter school for the homeschooling. We are going to try California Virtual Academy (CAVA) which will send him a laptop and all the curriculum and tests are online. My mom is technically still his legal guardian so she will be handling that. Until we are up and running with the charter school, I am going to start him out slowly reading some books of his choice and doing some book reports. I want him to really evaluate his likes and dislikes and start working on some life goals so I think we will focus a lot on that. I'm going to get him started blogging as well. I think I will also do some art projects since he was interested in art at one time. I'll have him check out my friend Julie's blog for some project ideas.
So pray for us, especially for Andrew. He is such an unhappy kid, and I am really hoping that he will find love here, and a positive outlook on life.

Be careful with CAVA. It is very easy for kids to fudge their tests and mark their assignments complete so double check everything he does.
Jenna did CAVA in 8th grade and she has told me after the fact how much she didn't really do. They do have a really good art program though :)
