Fall is here!

Fall is my favorite season. We got a jumpstart on fall activities yesterday by visiting the pumpkin patch on their opening weekend. They were doing free "hay" rides which is really a tractor trailer ride but was fun none the less. Elijah really wanted to pick out a pumpkin yesterday but it still seemed too early to do that. Instead we visited the petting zoo, and did some of the bounce house stuff they have there.

We also had a fun day on Friday. We spent the entire day at the LA County Fair. It was hot but not as hot as the day we went last year. This year we managed to see the milking demonstration and get our free milk. Elijah was able to complete his book reports so that he got 9 free rides from the fair which was plenty. We bought tickets for Andrew so that he could do rides and we spent $20 buying him 40 tickets which lasted the exact same amount of time as Elijah's free 9 rides. My mom went with us and I think she had a nice time being able to be grandma with all her grandkids. I think Andrew also enjoyed having his grandma there. I love that the fair offers so much for free. We got free parking, free admission, free milk, and free rides by signing up to go with our homeschool group. We also got into the fair 2 hours before it was open to the public. The only thing that is by no means free is the food and drinks. I packed snacks for us but we still were drawn to the fair food. I didn't have time to do much shopping. The one thing I purchased was a set of 600 thread count sheets for $20 which I thought was a great deal. Well I put them on the bed last night and they are really thin. They are soft but not the best quality. I guess you get what you pay for.

Tomorrow is the official first day of school for Andrew. We don't have all his materials yet but he should be able to get started by doing the online lessons on our computer. All his classes are set-up. The one thing I am most concerned about in his class schedule is that the placement counselor is keeping him in Algebra 1 even though I really think he needs pre-algebra. She said they have a lot of online help and tutoring and by keeping him in alegbra 1 he won't get behind his class and have to do summer school. So we are giving it a shot. Andrew will be expected to do 6 hours of school each day so hopefully he will get it done and stay on track.

Well we need to get ready for church so I'm off. Enjoy the rest of your weekend!

Tell Andrew not to worry, the six hours a day is relative, and if you figure there is no real "homework" like in "institutional school", he'll actually spend less time working on school work.
Doesn't the term "institutional school" make you giggle? It sounds more like my house where the teacher needs her own padded room and daily meds.
