Woohoo!

Things are going really good right now. We met with the Education Specialist (ES) from Elijah's charter school on Tuesday. She is the teacher that tracks our progress, and orders our supplies for us. She looked over all the work Elijah has done and said it looked great. I had to turn in a learning record as well which documents all the new concepts Elijah has learned and which of the State Standards we have met for his grade level and she said that looked great too. That is such a relief. In the back of my mind I've been worried about how that first meeting would go because I wasn't sure what to expect. We will be meeting with her monthly. She also administered the WRAT test for Elijah and I got to sit with him while he answered the questions. A lot of the test is given orally. Elijah did pretty good with the math questions and just ok with the reading questions. I had to really bite my tongue when he was answering some of the questions wrong. He really didn't try to spell a lot of the spelling words he was given and didn't try to read a lot of the reading words he was given. Its so easy to say "I don't know". I know he could of figured out some of them but I had to bite my tongue. I'll be interested to hear the results.

We also received good news about Andrews schooling. He is accepted into California Virtual Academy (CAVA) and will start on Monday. What I didn't realize until yesterday, is that Monday is the first day of school for all the high schoolers in CAVA. I thought he would be starting late and would have to do catch up since he had already been in school in Cathedral City but not so. He will be starting with his class. Isn't that cool? He is excited. Yesterday we also made a good find for Andrew. We went to a thrift store and found a bike for him that is in really good condition for $20. He is really happy about that. Since he has been doing so good here, I am giving him a little freedom and letting him take walks around the neighborhood and I will let him take bike rides now. Andrew really wants to get a part-time job so he will be able to use the bike to get to and from work whenever he finds a job.

In romantic news Doug brought me home a beautiful bouquet of roses yesterday just because. They are really pretty. He also brought home some cold hard cash from the sale of the Camry so that all made for a happy evening.
