Well we have one week of school down and it went pretty well. There were a few times I had to get stern with Elijah to get him to do his school work and we have had to work through a lot of complaining but for the most part he has taken it all on well. I had my moments of frustration when I felt like I was repeating myself ten times, and Elijah wasn't remembering anything I was saying but we worked through that as well. Math is definitely Elijah's easiest subject and he has taken much more of an interest in art than he used to. We are still struggling with reading but we will keep working on it, and I'm sure it will start clicking soon. I am going to move reading to the first subject we do daily, instead of the third and hopefully that well help.
On Thursday we got to take a break in our day and meet some friends from the Yucaipa mom's group for frozen yogurt and after I took the kids to the duck pond at the Ford St. Park because we have been studying ducks for Elijah's school lessons. We have been reading The Story of Ping which is about a duck that lives on the Yangtze River in China. We went there on a MOTS playdate about a month ago and it was nice but the ducks didn't want to have much to do with us at that time. Well those ducks must not be getting fed now that school is back in session because when we went there Thursday, about 50 ducks actually came running up to us right up the grassy hill to get some food. We didn't even have to go near the water to feed them. It was such a different experience and it was so cute to see my kids literally surrounded by these ducks that were practically eating out of their hands. I wish I had taken the camera but I didn't. =(
On Friday we tried to have a fieldtrip to an art museum at Cal State San Bernardino. We were going with some of our home school friends and my friend and I had each looked up information about the museum on their website. Well, when we got down there after circling around forever trying to figure where we should be, and paid for parking we got to the museum door only to find that it is closed for renovations for a month! We left a note telling them that may have been good information to include on their website. =/
After that we tried to figure out what else was in the area that would be a good learning adventure for the kids and my friend remembered that there is a children's museum nearby in San Bernardino so we drove off in search off it and after driving around a bit we found it. So we get the kids out, and get to the door and guess what? Yep, that dang museum was closed as well! Its closed until September 2nd. So defeated we decided to settle in the park next to that museum to eat our picnic lunch that we had brought. The kids ate and ran around and found some interesting bugs unfortunately poor little Jake got his first bee sting. We got the stinger out and put mud on it which I think helped but by then we had all had enough, and headed for home.
So this next week will be busy and will be a good trial to see how well we can get on task and get stuff done when we have other things going on. On Wednesday MOTS which used to be MOPS has its first meeting of the session, and Thursday is our first park day of the school year with our homeschool group. I'm sure it will be another good week and I am excited about the Five in a Row book we are doing this week. Its called "Clown of God" and its a really neat story with spiritual meaning. Hope you all have a good week!

Speaking of which, you find something over there for you on the August 30 Whatever Weekends #2 Post.
Enjoy.
I fixed it. The video is up now. Hope you and Elijah like it.
Feel like a stalker here with my third comment on the same post. I'm so glad he liked it! Sorry it's so small. Originally on my computer Ryan was able to see the text bigger and could read along.
