Sweet Freedom

Yesterday was a nice day and I was just able to enjoy the freedom of being a stay at home mom and a homeschooler. I didn't have to worry about rushing to drop off a kid at school or rushing to pick-up a kid from school in the afternoon like a lot of my other mommy friends do. We began the day by meeting some of the moms from MOPS at a local restaurant for breakfast. I haven't been out for breakfast like that in ages and it was really nice. The restaurant had a private room set-up for us so it was perfect with the kids and I was a little worried about time constraints because we had our field trip to the Fender museum yesterday as well but it all worked out fine with time to spare.

The Fender museum was interesting. We got there a little early and there was time for Elijah to run around with his friends on the grass in front and they had a big outdoor stage there and all the kids were up on stage playing and jumping and running around together so that was fun. When we went in we sat for a presentation by a guy that does the audio stuff for concerts there. The presentation was about an hour long and I had been worried about Elijah sitting that long and listening but it turned out I should have been more concerned about the baby being quiet that long. I had to spend most of the presentation time out int he hall so the baby wouldn't be disruptive unfortunately that left Elijah sitting by himself and he turned out to be a bit disruptive too so I was a little embarrassed. Elijah wasn't trying to do anything wrong he was just eager to participate and I don't want to stop that but he raised his hand for any and everything throughout the presentation and made himself look a bit like the class clown. The presenter asked who knew how to play musical instruments and apparently Elijah thinks he knows how to play every instrument in the band. Then Elijah raised his hand every time the guy asked if there were questions and so the guy had to call on him but Elijah didn't have anything to say. it went on like through the whole presentation and then at one point the guy called on Elijah to repeat back what the guy had been talking about the whole time and Elijah couldn't answer his questions. So yeah I'm glad I have an eager and outgoing boy but we are going to have to work on this. The guy was nice enough to give Elijah a sticker for "participating" and Elijah was overjoyed.

After the presentation we were able to go through the museum. They have a nice Johnny Cash display among other things and they also have actual musical instruments for kids to try and play with. Elijah's favorite was the drum set.

We left the museum at 12:45pm and since we were down in Corona I figured that we were only about 30 minutes from the beach so here is where the sweet freedom comes in, I decided to drive down there to eat lunch on the beach. It was really nice there wasn't a lot of traffic so by 1:15 we were in Newport Beach and we found a place to park for free close to the beach and I keep a blanket in the trunk so we grabbed our lunch and the blanket and went down to the beach and enjoyed ourselves. Nobody got wet. Elijah collected shells while Daniel played in the sand. Daniel really liked the sand. There was only about 5 people total at the beach and two of them were windsurfing. I think that's what you call it they were on small surf boards and had big para-sails they were hanging onto. It was very relaxing and just a nice time. We managed to leave in time to beat the traffic too which was nice. Another plus is the workout I got walking in the beach sand. Heehee. I also drove past the hospital I was born in so I showed Elijah where his mommy entered the world.

Its just so nice being able to have the freedom to go places and do things on a whim. We are very blessed that we are able to do that, and I thank God for that.

Ooooh that sounds nice. I'm on the second wind of the flu (Brooklyn has it now). Why is the onset of the flu always in the middle of the night? The beach sounds nice....good for you!

What you saw was probably kite surfing. My brother-in-law just really messed up his knee doing that.
I am glad you had a nice day. Elijah will learn the whole sit and listen thing eventually, but it his enthusiasm that is so important, that is what us so hard to hold on to. Hopefully he hold on to it forever.
