Getting ready to party

Tomorrow is the Christmas party for the homeschool group. I am the party planner and I was thinking this party would be more low key and just Christ centered so I hadn't been worried about it until today. Today I called everyone to remind them what they signed up to bring and someone let me know that they were disappointed that I hadn't planned an ornament exchange for the kids. I later found out that the ornament exchange was a tradition and a lot of people were going to miss it. When discussing plans for the party the ornaments were brought up to me but several people told me they no longer enjoyed the exchange and had too many ornaments at their house as it is so one person suggested putting the emphasis more on Christ. She suggested a Happy Birthday Jesus party and that people bring a gift for the baby Jesus that we could donate as a group to the local pregnancy counseling center. I thought that was a fabulous idea and brought it up to the group at one of our park days and no one said anything negative about it so I went with it. So now its the day before the party and I'm finding out people are unhappy. That stinks! I really want people to be happy. So now I am thinking about making dough that the kids can make ornaments with. The party will be at the church int he fellowship hall so we will have access to the oven to bake the ornaments. I'm sure everything will work out fine but I am again wondering if I need to have my head examined for taking on this responsibility. I'll let you know in the next blog how it all turns out.

=( Joanna you can't possibly make everyone happy! If they want something 'fun' to do with the kids what about gingerbread houses made with graham crackers? I have the frosting recipe that works as the 'glue' they can each bring different sorts of candies to decorate the houses. I love your idea of making more about the real reason for Christmas ~ we're doing the same thing in our home!
