Whats new?

I haven't been in much of a blogging mood for some reason lately but I am tired of seeing the Smooth Legs review as my last post so I guess I will update on whats been going on with us. On Tuesday last week we were all in the car driving out to Indio to see my grandma who had been admitted to a skilled nursing facility temporarily when we were rear-ended as we were exiting the freeway. Thank God for car seats the kids are fine. Also we still had Daniel rear-facing and I know that helped. Doug was driving and he is fine as well. I was in the front passenger seat and was actually sitting a little bit reclined because I was reading for my bible study and the poor posture didn't help. I have whiplash. It hasn't been too horrible. It hurts mostly when I am on my feet for awhile but seems to be getting better. Our car is has an appointment to get repaired on Monday and I am not sure how long it will take but the other guy's insurance will be paying for it, and will supply us with a rental car so that is a relief. The other driver was very upfront with what had happened and told us his cell phone rang and so he bent down to retrieve it from the floor and never saw us.

In more positive news, a couple of days ago Christmas came early as my Calvert 1st grade supplies and materials arrived! Two big boxes full of books and supplies! I have been looking it over and I am pleased that the language arts seems to be right at Elijah's level so it will be challenging but not too far above his head. The science is really good! I had ordered a science experiment kit with it and I am loving that! We are going to have some really good experiments going on here, and Elijah wanted to start them right away which makes me happy. The math also looks good and again seems to be right at his level. I ordered the 2nd grade math since that is his best subject and I think that was the right decision. The social studies seems to be the lightest subject and smallest books but it still looks a lot better than what we had to work with this year. I am going to finish up a few things with Elijah hopefully by the end of March then we are going to jump right into First Grade and will probably work on it over the summer as well. I will have a better idea of how I like the Calvert curriculum after I use it for a few days. So far it looks very good though. I was also pleasantly surprised to receive supplies with our order such as pencils, writing paper, construction paper, long drawing paper, and manilla colored paper, as well as watercolor paint, erasers, ruler, a pencil sharpener, colored pencils. and an inflatable globe. I know it didn't cost them much to include those things but its so nice to have extra supplies. I love that the charter school paid for all of it too!

So that's whats new with us. I pray that all who read this are doing well and are blessed with health, wealth, and peace ;)
