Road Trip part one.

On Friday last week Elijah, Daniel and I got to go on a road trip with my mom. I know traveling by car with two young kids can sound grueling but I love to get out of the house and see the world so for me it was fun although we did have some grueling moments. Our purpose was to go to Phoenix, AZ to see an old childhood chum graduate from college. To the left is a pic of Elijah by a big fountain in Phoenix. The water danced to music similar to the fountains in front of the Bellagio in Las Vegas. It was very impressive.

This is Christy and her parents fresh after graduation. She graduated from The University of Phoenix with a BS in Business Management. The pic was taken at a mall across the street from The University of Phoenix stadium where her graduation ceremony was held. The cardinals play at that stadium and it is HUGE. It is all enclosed which I imagine is very desirable in Phoenix. It was 100 degrees on this November day. I am told the stadium roof can be opened up similar to the way the Superdome does. I wonder if the two are similar in size because I must reiterate that place was HUGE.

After the graduation Christy's family took us out for lunch at the Yard House which I had never eaten at. The food was very good and portions were generous. Christy ate a dinner salad. I guess that's how she stays so cute and petite. We then went back to her place for cake. Christy lives in Mesa. I guess you would call it a suburb of Phoenix but I don't know how you can tell. On the way out to AZ we drove to Phoenix and that took about 4 and half hours and were told Mesa was just past Phoenix well low and behold Mesa has 15 exits off of the freeway. That whole area is just sprawling. We didn't reach our hotel for another 30-45 minutes after we reached Phoenix because it was in Mesa where Christy lives. It was a fun place to visit they have everything you can think of shopping wise and we even found a decent park for Elijah to run around in and burn off some energy. I don't think I would enjoy living there though. It just seemed like wall to wall people and traffic. Not what you would imagine about the middle of the desert if you've never been there. I'll stick with my 3 freeway exits Yucaipa.

After the festivities we went back to the hotel and went swimming and soaked in the hot tub. That was great. Elijah is really turning into a swimmer. That evening we went to dinner at BJ's and had some excellent pizza and a scrumptious pizzookie. The next day we woke up and made another quick trip to the pool before checking out. Then we got to go meet my Aunt Sue and her daughter Danelle for lunch at the Golden Corral. I'm not a huge fan of buffets but this place was really good. It was nice seeing family we hadn't seen for a few years we exchanged emails and MySpace contact info so we can stay in touch better.
